Dr. J. Chandler Berg, a native of Albany, GA, has been serving the local community for over 40 years. He graduated magna cum laude from Georgia Tech with a degree in Health Systems before earning his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He subsequently completed his ophthalmology training at Emory University, where he served as chief resident. Following this, Dr. Berg pursued specialty fellowship training in corneal disease and surgery at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. In 1984, he joined his father’s practice in Albany, becoming the first fellowship-trained corneal surgeon in Southwest Georgia.
A board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Berg specializes in corneal disease and surgery, advanced intraocular lens technologies and complex cataract. Over the course of his career, he performed more than 35,000 cataract operations and thousands of corneal procedures consistently utilizing the safest and most effective surgical techniques available.
Dr. Berg’s dedication to excellence has earned him recognition among his peers, including being featured in Who’s Who Among Physicians and Surgeons. He served as president of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology, a member of the Medical Advisory Board for the Georgia Eye Bank, president of the Dougherty County Medical Society, and chief of ophthalmology at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. His professional affiliations include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the Castroviejo Corneal Society, the American College of Eye Surgeons, the American Board of Eye Surgeons, and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Berg is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoys spending his free time with his family, attending church, engaging in lake activities, hunting, exercising, exploring computer science, and working in his workshop.
